The linear cut actually got a sharper emotional response out of me. In that cut, I was first introduced to a grandmother and grand son connecting at home with NO inkling that she was about to end her life. When it cut to her grabbing the rifle as she walked through the kitchen, my jaw actually dropped. I think the unexpected turn pulled a stronger emotional response, which then made me *want* to keep watching to see what would happen next. Whereas option B started off with the unimaginable truth and kind of kept my emotional state at a steady lull, if that makes sense.
Of course, that could also be because I already knew the story at that point, but Option A definitely steered my emotions in a sudden direction that made me want to keep watching.
Lauren! Thank you for taking the time and especially expressing deep feedback. I really appreciate it and you. Totally get that approach. I’m hesitant because most people who I only show the linear cut to have a binary response of love or hate. But you definitely gave me some good thoughts to deeply ponder. Thanks!
